Wondering when it is a good time to seek counselling? Sometimes we can feel stuck and unable to get out of experiencing 'Big Feelings'. When your usual coping skills are no longer able to help, and these feelings are prolonged and causing problems in your life, then it is a good time to reach out. Pui-Yan Leung, (Katie) is a clinical social worker and therapist with over 8 years of experience. She is a registered social worker in Ontario, Canada and Hong Kong and a member of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association. She works with children, adolescence, parents and adults.
Katie is known for her warm and empathetic approach by being fully present, actively listening, and in tune to things you might not notice. Katie works from a client-centred (your goals, not her agenda), non-judgmental stance and has a quick ability to connect with the people she works with. Whether you have a diagnosis or not, sometimes one or a few sessions with a therapist can help you through a difficult time.
Katie practices in solutions-focus brief therapy as well a narrative therapy. Narrative therapy is a non-blaming approach which centres people as experts of their own lives. It views the problem as separate from the person. Katie will work collaboratively with you to explore your story to uncover the problem, its impact on you and what it means for you. She will guide you to finding unique solutions to reduce the control that the problem has to your life.
