    Getting dog from airport

    Hi

What is the best way of getting my dog to DB
    once she has cleared customs.

Will the shuttle bus take her if she is still in
her pet carrier -i.e. not loose on the bus

Has anyone any experience of how long it will take
to process her once she has landed in HK airport.
Difficult to book a car to take us to the house if
we have to wait hours for her.

Any info would be greatly appreciated..........

having been through this myself, I'd recommend getting in touch with a pet moving company.

they know the drum, can take your dog thru quarantine, they know the paperwork, they know the people that work there, and they'll have their own car. probably cheaper and less stress than DIY.

the freight terminal is very user unfriendly.

    just call a cab

We handled the arrival of our cats without a moving company about a month ago. While it didn't go without hiccups (the airline lost all the original paperwork!) It was worth saving the several thousand USD. Once my husband had the cats in hand (relatively speaking) he simply called a cab and came home.

you can hire a pet moving to to just do the pick up and bring to your door, from memory. there's a charge, but as you've already done the import permits and airfeight yourself, it is not that expensive, less than $1000HK if my memory serves me correctly.

but i have not done this for a few years, so i could be wrong...

We just went through this on Sunday.

    It took us:
-1/2 hr to clear Customs at the airport (seriously efficient! although we did arrive at 9:30pm at night)
-About 10 mins to drive to the freight terminal
-Then about 1 hr to clear Cargo customs [note: you will need to go thru 3 departments to get your dog a) pay cargo reception & collect your dog's paperwork b) go to cargo to present paperwork & collect your dog and c) go thru quar. where your dog will be given a rabies booster shot & be microchipped (again) if they have a non AVID format chip] & licensed (you'll have pay for this)]

We hired a car service in advance so they knew what was involved (and we knew they would be happy to pick up our dog)

How long it will actually take will depend on when you arrive and who else is collecting their dog.

Hope this helps and good luck!

The answer to the above question is "YES". if your pet is in the carrier bag and not loose, you can take it onto public transport, i have done it many times.

That is unfortunately not an option for DB, cabs are not allowed through the tunnel.
I agree with wtbhotia, you should have no problem getting on the bus with your dog in a proper carrier bag.
