we are in a similar position - I take it with 140 people on the wiaitng list for DIBS will mean thereis no chance of getting in? Or are the waiting lists quite transisent

    Discovery College Y1 Wait list?

    Hi everyone,

I'm joining the thread a bit late but find all of the information posted thus far on DB and nearby schools extremely helpful, thank you.

We are in a similar predicament to Josbie as we are moving from USA in January, hoping to settle in DB, but finding out that it is not easy to find schooling nearby since DBIS has such a long wait list. Just found out that we are late in the application process for Y1 primary school as well.

Does anyone know if Discovery College has a wait list for Y1 2010/2011. I sent a note to the Admissions Department but noticed they are closed for winter break until Jan 4th. We are arriving in mid-January.

Any help or additional suggestions is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks you!

    Have you tried Discovery College?
After the stress of schools I think you will love it here!! We have been here 3 years now and LOVE it! It is a bit surreal sometimes and feels a bit like Pleasantville but Central is but a ferry ride away to feel the chaos again. hahah

I have just left DB and moved to Kowloon because of the school situation there. It is a disgrace. In 6 months, we moved from position 112 to 104 on the DBIS waiting list. At this rate, my kid will be dead before getting a position there. The discovery college is even worse. Dont even bother applying to both schools unless you have the $300,000 queue jumping fee.

My son is going to the Australian school in Kowloon Tong. Its much easier and more schooling choices in other parts of HK. Forget DB. Its so ironic because DB is suppose to be the place for families!

We are looking for a reception place for our daughter with a view to her then moving up to Year 1 in September (she is in a reception in the UK at present). I have contacted Discovery Bay International School who have a waiting list of 140 children,(!) however Lantau International school do have places but is a 40 minute bus ride from Discovery bay which is where we were planning to live.

What have other people done about schooling? Do you think it is worth heading over to Silvermine bay to live to be near the school?

Have you got views on either school?

Thanks for your help - not used to the whole expat thing and feel as if I am feeling my way in the dark!

y1 is always EXTREMELY difficult to get a spot for.
if i were you, i'd accept the spot at LIS and then see if anything else comes up. you will lose your deposit or whatever but at least you'd be guaranteed of getting a place.

Yes you should take the place at LIS. The only other option will be an even longer bus or ferry ride to Kowloon or HK Island.

You have absolutely zero chance of getting into Discovery College or DBIS in Sept this year unless you are prepared to pay a non refundable queue jumping fee of $300,000 to DBIS.
