    Club membership

Hi there, the family and I are moving to HK in early Jan from the UK. Looking around it seems like that the clubs are an important part of life. I looked at the website for each of the. Can anyone confirm if we would qualify for membership to the residents club if we rent in DB? Would we have to pay a large debenture? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Your landlord needs to sign a form that basically transfers his/her membership over to you. The forms are available at the club. You don't need to pay any debenture, just a security deposit (not sure how much, I think it was around HK$3000).

You can easily be misled by this "clubs" thing. Only a small minority of single/no kids expats are members of any clubs here, and even amongst expat families it is by no means ubiquitous.

If you want to have access to the pools (indoor & outdoor in Club Siena, outdoor in the Residents Club), the gyms and/or the playrooms in DB you need to be a member of the Residents Club.

Indeed - but how many people have access to that sort of stuff "back home"? Why is it that when people come to HK then somehow feel they "must" have a whole heap of things that they wouldn't dream of paying for in their home country?
