where to live in DB if commuting each day via ferry?

    Hello

We are moving to DB from the UK after Christmas, and just in the process of deciding on a flat. We were over a few weeks ago and saw lots of apartments in each of the areas.

My question is, just how much difference on a day to day basis does living within walking distance of the pier make? My husband will be travelling to Kowloon on a daily basis. I will be dropping kids off at DBIS

At the moment we have the choice of SeeBee Lane/Seabird lane, or others are La Serene, Costline or Caperidge/Cresmount.

It seems that you get more sq ft for money the further away from the pier you are...which is tempting with two kids aswell!

any thoughts from those who do this would be much appreciated. Otherwise the decision will be the flip of a coin after a few glasses of wine!!

    Cheers

    Hi there,

Just my own opinion, but for DBIS, Seebee Lane/Seabird Lane are definitely closer as you would only have to make the one journey, whereas from caperidge, coastline etc. you usually have to go to the plaza, then take the other bus.

Having said that, pretty much the whole of DB is within walking distance so you can actually walk to the pier from any of the places you mentioned if you really wanted to, though Upper caperidge/cresmont, coastline might be a bit further. La serene is up on a hill as well.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the reply!

As the crow flies it all looks fairly manageable on foot or bike but I guess in heat and rain, up hill isnt great! I am getting seduced by the lovely sea views you get up there tho - dont know how I am ever going to make the decision!

    Cheers

I live up on La Serene and the views are what helped us choose where to live. The bus is very convenient, stops outside the door in most cases and runs on a very strict schedule so you know it will be there when the schedule says. It's literally two minutes down to the pier in the morning and about 3-4 on the way up in the evening.

With the cooler weather it's also a lovely walk down - though I usually bus/hire car it back up as I always seem to have loads of shopping! There is a gorgeous breeze up there too, even in the extreme heat of the summer, we were getting air through the apartment.

There is some lovely landscaping around La Serene, more mature trees, nice water features, and for the kids, the playground is in an almost virgin state.

    Good luck with your choices!

Thanks for your response Fiona. We have missed out on the La Serene apartment we saw and are now down to two - one near the plaza and one up in Peninsula Village. Still undecided!! I can see why you choose the views..lovely up there! Again thanks for taking the time to reply

We live in the Beach Village (Seabird Lane) and are very happy there. I commute every day to Kowloon Bay, so being within walking distance to the plaza/ferry was vital for me. Mr Elle commutes to Tung Chung and the bus stop is only a few steps away. While we don't have a sea view, we have an open and green view and a large terrace to take it in. It's all low rises and a very nice neighbourhood where you actually know your neighbours.

Thanks elle. We have a place we are seriously considering in beach village, but all the places we have seen are garden apartments. Am I justified at all to have a concern about security with garden properties?

    thanks again

We are in the upper ground floor, just upstairs the places you looked at. Frankly speaking I think in the low rises one place is as safe or unsafe as the other and as you make it. Make sure to close doors and windows when you leave the house and to not keep anything of value in clear view from the window.
The only precaution I can think of in a garden flat is mesh at the fence to keep snakes out in autumn when they look for a cosy place to hibernate.
Most reported burglaries in DB were in Head Land and in the Town Houses in Seabee Lane. Those places are detached houses, thus much more accessable and less risky for buglars.

Thanks Ellle, really helpful information... I will ask the agent about mesh!
