A plus size question for the curvy ladies....

Hey, DB divas, ladies of shape, gals with curves, the zatfig chicks..... I gotta ask you something.....

Where do you shop for PANTS?

I'm a size 14/16 and while I can usually get shirts/tops I often have a hard time with pants.

I'm really really REALLY tired of relying on good old Marks and Spencer to fulfil my plus sized arse's needs. Not to mention the fact that I own so much stuff from M&S that I often walk past other women in Central wearing the exact same suit as me!!

H&M is ok.... but often a bit limited... Espirit, forget it. Not very accommodating.

Does anyone have any good suggestions?

And I don't mean Lane Bryant -- somewhere that does not cost a fortune would be nice.....

And bathing suits! Does anyone know where to find plus-sized bathing suits?

Would love to hear where the curvy girls shop!

Yeah, not my style either... not really young and hip.
Ozzie Cozzie -- a bit pricey, no?

have you tried getting stuff made? I have not (I travel enough to get my clothes in Aus or UK) but have wondered about it and others have indicated it can be a great way of getting good stuff cheap. Especially if you go to Shenzhen.

    Hi Emypie

Just a quick one - do you mean 14/16 UK or US size? I only ask as I'm about the same in UK sizing but can't really comment on US sizes (US16 = UK20).

Know what you mean about M&S and I would definitely agree with the suggestion of a trip to SZ for tailoring - that's what I tend to do for work stuff and it works out pretty cheap if you get a load made in one go. Take stuff to copy if you can for the best result.
Zara, Mango and Ted Baker are also ok on sizing over here (14-16 UK sizes) if a little pricey compared to the UK versions.

Other than that, ASOS.com deliver from the UK to HK or there's always the option of getting stuff posted out by friends and family, or even Ebay (I get lots of Oasis, Monsoon and Coast brand new from Ebay UK), where sellers will often deliver worldwide.

Nearly cried the first time I went into Uniqlo in CWB for my fave jeans (always used to buy denim there in UK) and was told 'sorry madam, we don't stock fat sizes'. *Sigh*

And before any of the usual ranters start up about fat western women, how we should all be flagellating as we're so gross, no wonder all our men run off with local girls, etc, etc, please save yourselves the effort eh?

See if we can get one thread to be a friendly one?

Good luck and please share if you have any success elsewhere!

kjfarr -- I'm a 14/16 US size, not sure what that is in UK size?

Can't believe the sales staff actually used the term "fat sizes"! That is just horrifying! That is just downright rude.

Thanks for the suggestion on shopping online. I've never tried that because I always think the size will end up being wrong. Anyways I should try it some time.

I should also get myself to Shenzhen one of these days. Often got clothes made in my home country (swim suits too) and it really is a good way to go.

victoria secret deliver to HK, their stuff is good (and not just the sexy underwear haha) but the suits and knits are great as well... the prices are good too.

I get a lot of stuff off there, but thought you were meaning places you can just go in and try it on.

Have heard about a place called 'Love it' but never been... supposed to be a bit less naff stuff. If you go let me know what it is like

Like MI07 I usually shop in the states or the UK as I travel a lot

definitely tailoring in SZ. i took 3 pairs of trousers in and got 9 pairs made. they all fit REALLY well, very little shrinkage, the colours i wanted... pockets where i wanted, none where i didn't.

took 3 tops in as well, got 8 tops made...

all told, cost about $2500... i was VERY happy with it!

It's the typical local straightforwardness. I used to traipse halfway across town for film auditions only to be told "Sorry you are too bald". Whereas "you are not right for this role" would have been kinder

Is there another thread, same topic/author, floating around? 'Cos I posted an answer about this but it's not here...
