    DB travel convenience?

Hi, we are relocating to HK in July and my husband will be working in Kowloon ICC but will be travelling extensively using HK Airport. We are looking at DB due to all the positive feedback we have seen and read.

Is there a direct ferry from DB to Kowloon ICC?
If so how long does it take? Is the service any good?
If not how long does it take on the MTR?
How long does it take on the MTR from DB to the airport?

Given the above information is there a preferred area of DB that we should be looking at?

I will be a stay at home Mum with a 5 year old and a 2 year old.

Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.

It takes 1 hour (min) to get to Kowloon from DB - does not matter if you take the ferry or the bus/train route. My husband used to do it and the ferry/star ferry connections didn't gel so it was always 60 minutes to get to/from work.

From DB you don't get the MTR to the airport. There is a direct bus that takes about 20 minutes. It is costly though at $36 (sorry, about this much-I don't go to the airport too often) each way and runs every half hour, or there abouts. You can go the cheaper route - bus to Tung Chung and then airport bus to airport but that would take a lot longer and is a pain. I have done it once.

DB is small, you can walk from one side to the other in about 45 minutes so I don't think the area matters too much. It depends on your budget, if you want a balcony or yard, number of bedrooms. Once you have those then the area will be decided for you as apartments meeting those criteria will be available or otherwise.

    Good luck with the move.

DB is great for a family with small kids. But be careful about the schools. There are two main english medium schools in DB but they both have waiting lists stretching many years. Unless you or your company is prepared to pay a large non refundable debenture ($300,000), there is no chance to go to school in DB and your kids will need to commute. The closest alternative is Lantau international school (about 40 minutes one way) or somewhere in HK Island or Kowloon (about 1 hour one way).

DB is in the middle of nowhere. To get to central or airport is OK because you have direct 24 hour connections to both of these places. But going anywhere else from DB is a pain.
