    Contact Lenses

Any suggestions on where to buy contacts? And what are we paying for contacts?
I went to one store the other day that wanted $150 for a 3 day pack. You would only need 122 of those to last the year, or $18,300 worth. Seems like a lot of money for contacts.
I would really like to buy the old-fashioned daily wears. I don't need to throw them away every night.

That would be slightly over US$500/year for contacts? How is it that contacts have become more expensive over the years??

18k?! You may as well get your eyes lasered (as I plan to) and be rid of contacts forever!

I pay about AU$176 for 6 pairs back at home, that are meant to last about a month each, which brings it to about AU$350 or very roughly US$200 (?) a year. I think monthlies are a good way to go - you are less stuffed than if you lose one that is meant to last over a year. I would try venturing away from 'expat' areas for better prices, if you haven't already. I don't imagine you can go that wrong with different optometrists, but I could be wrong.

I learned my lesson about buying glasses in Pacific Place and Central vs Aberdeen near my office. Huge savings.

I went to City Super in Central recently and couldn't find a bag of *rice* for less than about $150

City Super is where we go when we can't find it anywhere else.

Guess I will try close to home for contacts and see what happens.

I would really like the type that you can wear for a year, because I don't wear them daily and--if I don't lose them--I can get 2 years out of them.

If you go to Lenscrafters a 6 month supply of Johnson&Johnson Acuvue daily disposals (not the cheapest brand by any means) will cost $1800-ish. So about $10 per day. That price hasn't moved significantly for several years.

Er, no. Lasik resets your eyes to zero (if they get it right), but it doesn't stop them changing. As you get older they will continue to change, so it is likely that you will only get a few years of no lenses/glasses.

A few years will be worth the money.
