    Recommended hospitals

    Hi there,
As a new resident in HK I do not have a clue about medical service over here. Is the system English like??? I mean has everyone got their own GP and then go to hospital just in a case of emergency. Could you advice me on which GP’s and hospitals are the best?
Our Insurance gave us a list of hospitals but don’t know which one to choose.

    Canossa Hospital (Caritas)
    Hong Kong Adventist Hospital
    Hong Kong Baptist Hospital
    Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital
    Matilda International Hospital

Your advices will be highly appreciated.
    Many thanks

We've used Adventist (for a pretty big emergency) and Matilda. Both were fine. Staff seemed well-trained.

I think you also need to find a separate GP for more routine stuff. I can recommend mine, but he doesn't deal with insurance.

I personally don't have a GP and just go to the Canossa as they have a couple of really good doctors on rotation in their out patient department.

Many new expats tend to prefer Matilda, but Canossa and Adventist are extremely competent and are popular with longer term residents / locals.

The Sanitorium is very popular with the locals (some one told me more billionaires have been born or have died there than any other hospital they could think of).

Matilda have a clinic in Central which operate as a GP. Have cholesterol issues and have to go regularly for pills and blood tests. they do it all there. I have had my vaccinations there also. I just pay the bill on the day and post it to bupa who post a cheque back. It is really easy to get an appt which is good. They are slightly more expensive than Quality Healthcare Asia but if your insurance covers it i would reccomend them.

If i need hospital stays then i just get bupa to pre-authorise and the bill goes directly to them. I had a stay in Canossa and they were very nice and very competant.

PM me if you need any more specific help.

I would say they're all more or less equally as good, so just take the closest one to where you live. In case of an emergency, you want to be able to get to the hospital.... fast....
We've been going to the Adventist for emergencies and have been very happy with the waiting times/treatment.
Tell us where you live so we can recommend GP's.
