Chronic Headaches and Children - Recommendations?

My son (11 y o) has suffered from chronic headaches for years. I am desperately looking for ways to manage the headaches without constantly using medication, as I know this can make the headaches worse over time. We have tried osteopathy (the wonderful Leticia at O T & P) and homeopathy (the equally wonderful Graeme Bradshaw at IMI) but neither have made a significant difference. We have investigated and treated allergies, intolerances, sinus issues, dental issues etc.

Does anyone have any experience in pediatric chronic headaches and/or any other suggestions of things we could try? I'm not sure that I could convince my son to give acupuncture a go (he hates needles) but if the results are compelling enough, it might be worth it.

Also, if anyone knows a headache specialist in Hong Kong, please let me know. I understand that Dr Ben Tay was "the man" but that sadly he passed away last year.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Magnesium supplements can help headaches/migraines.

Plenty of information via a google search for this.

Might need a referral for an MRI scan.

My feeling is consult a pediatrician , such as Drs Mei Mei Yip or Johnston Foster at international Drs on Queens Rd Central. If your son has been experiencing chronic headaches for years, then I'd be asking for an MRI. Alternatively , it may be a spinal problem. I'm not a dr, but experienced chronic headaches from the age of 10 ( growing up in a volatile household didn't help) . It turned out that, a) I am extremely long sighted, therefore sitting at the front of the class was worse than seating me up the back of the classroom, so maybe your son couldhave a visual perception problem. b) curvature of the spine. In primary school in Australia. All kids were checked for scoliosis, and this was a state school. I was diagnosed and this was also thought to contribute .

Re accupuncture, try Dr Margaret Tang in Central. ( you can PM me for the number as I haven't got it on me presently, but her clinic is on Queens Rd central. She is a physio ( helped me immensely for my back and spine) but has had over 18 yrs as an acupuncturist and on pain, unless you move when the needles are inserted.

Take your son to a paediatrician, and ask him to explain to the dr now he feels the headaches and when he gets them and hopefully something will be sorted out.

This is obviously some strange meaning of the word "wonderful" of which I was previously unaware.

You are aware that homeopathy is pure quackery and osteopathy is pretty close?

Have you considered consulting a scientifically trained medical doctor?
