Actualy a good proper Thai massage with a skilled masseur would work wonders. I haven't found any here in Hong Kong just some rather dubious females.

Cometqq....change to a standing desk? You identified the problem in your post...possibly a cure rather than a band-aid

    Stretch Therapy and Structural Balance

In terms of stretch therapy, it is significantly different then massage therapy...

Stretch therapy done correctly (based on what mode it is) gets deeper into the joint capsules then massage ever could. Releasing adhesions and built of nets of fascia.

I have had numerous clients, get longer lasting and better results with Fascial Stretch Therapy then massage, chiro and physio services. Occasionally I recommend people to get Active Release technique don't to break up scar tissue in the muscle.

In terms of comments regarding to back pain earlier in the threads. Between increasing your flexibility/mobility and correcting strength imbalances. There is plenty you can do to correct these issues without relying on pain killers or temporary massages to alleviate the stress that just comes back.

If anyone has further questions regarding stretch therapy or issues with pain, feel free to shoot me an email and I can point you in the right direction.

Has anyone had any experience with Stretch Asia recently? Is there anyone else in HK doing AIS?

I went to Stretch Asia a few years back. I found the stretching great. However, I found them offensive. Nothing but hard sell and bullshit. Honestly $1000 an hour for someone to stretch me? Give me a break. My chiro has a Doctorate and he only charges $550. I would be interested in finding someone other than Stretch Asia to try AIS again. I just need to find another business offering it.

With any kind of Assisted stretching program it is important to be gentle and specific. Its not what you do it is how you do it. A qualified physical therapist who specialises in soft tissue release ytechniques will identify the tissue restrictions quickly and with multiple repetitions in the correct planes of motions and a light touch will unravel the compressions and entaglement of the muscle or fascial sheaths. It is important that you don't muscle in on the tissue and beat it up as this will ellicit the inbuilt stretch reflex to counter the stretch movement. Ask for the credentials first and ask for a consultation. That should be the way you guage who you want stretching you out. Stretch therapy done well is an art and a science and is highly effecive at treating most musculoskeletal issues. Hope this is useful for you.

I would like to add that most personal trainers now are offering their services at the same rate as the stretch therapists mentioned above. With Assisted Mobility trainers the background of the best trainers should be Sports science, Pilates, Physiotherapy, osteopathy or certified manual therapists who have had over 1000 hours of hands on training. It is a very physical and demanding professsion and the results can be outstanding if the treatment is done well where the protocols are followed to the letter. Many injuries that we see are from those people who had deep seated scar tissue and micro tears that were not teated well at the time of the injury. One of the clients I saw had a 16 year old rugby injury to his hip joints that had him hobbling for the past 10 years. With the correct movements and mobility training sequences you can unwind the tension from the scar tissue right into the deepest joint layers. <snip>
