SOPD in govt hospitals require referal letters, just go to your local GP get a checkup and ask for a referal letter, once you have that go to the SOPD (E&T) to book appointment.

Without wanting to sound like your mum, sleep apnea is serious, so if you guys are showing symptoms it might be worth getting it looked at.

Thanks- I'm not sure if our insurance will cover it, but then I suspect the only way to get my husband to go would be to knock him unconscious and drag him there. Which might affect the results.

Our family suffered through this as kids, with Dad's snoring loud enough to be heard throughout the house. And I have no idea how my mother put up with it for 50 years.

Dad finally went through the sleep tests and it showed how oxygen deprived he was, and how many times he stopped breathing, which was resulting in his falling asleep about 15 times during the day. He is now on one of those machines and Mum finally has peace at night. Get him to the Doctor's and you can all get some proper sleep.

My husband had the same problem and after a LOT of persuasion (nagging), finally got tested at the HK Sanatorium. Test was inconclusive as he was only able to sleep for the last hour of an overnight test (being hooked up to all sorts if stuff). The doctor then recommended a home test (less hooking of stuff) which yielded enough sleep data that showed sleep apnea.

Husband purchased a sleep apnea machine for approx $25K from Celki in Melbourne Plaza with a doctor's prescription.

Snoring is funny and everyone makes jokes about it. Occasionally, its not that funny.

@jkrob I did the sleep test but my mrs through her contacts in the hospital found a service that actually comes to your house around 8pm with all the gear and a laptop, you get hooked up with lots of wires and data recorder all over your body and head but its wireless connected to a lap top so it means you can fully move around without being stuck to a machine and also in the comfort of your own bed. the technican after hooking you up will leave and come back the following morning around 9am to help unhook the wire if you have done already and pack up and go, a full report will be issued in a week and you can show that to your official doctor.

Company name: The Homecare Medical Ltd - Benjamin Cheng - 9317-6170, Cost HK$1500, I paid 1K as my wife works in the govt Hospital
I did a follow up with the govt doctor and they recommended I do a non invasive exploratory surgery, where i was put under anesthetic and looked inside my nose and throat to see how much blockage there was and would surgery be able to fix it.
Surgery is a NO GO even though I had 100% blockage inside my nasal and throat area and I stopped breathing at least 35 times in an hour.
The govt doctor recommended I loose weight and use the sleep apena machine, my SIL wanted a second opinion and she new a doctor that used to work in her hospital who was the most senior guy there before and left to open his own practice.

Dr Lau Tze Wing- Specialist in Otorhinolaryngology - Suite 2406, Hang Lung Centre, 2-20 Paterson St, Causeway Bay - Tel 2323 4636.
He told me after doing a check up and reading my report that surgery is no use and that I need to loose weight which will help some but I am destined to be hooked up to a sleep apena machine and I showed him all the brochures that the Govt hospital had given me and recommended Celki Machine.

Went to their show room which was nearby, showed them my report as well and they said that I need an automatic pressure machine, they have a sleep room as well for you to try it out, I got the Philips REMstar Auto A-Flex, monthly rental for HK$1200.

Have been using it for the past 2 days and getting a very good nights sleep, not tired during the day, no headaches, even my wife said I dont snore anymore and dont wake the kid up LOL.

I think I have given too much info to take it, best to start with the test and your mrs might not be as extreme as me.

    1. It does seem freaky when you 1st try it on and try to sleep but for me I got used to it no problem, Im constantly knackered anyways so for me to fall asleep is very fast. this is the mask that I choose, it will be my Halloween costume as well.
    2. Yah i only got the machine on sat, been delaying it too long. no regrets so far.
