    private hospitals

    is there any reason to believe that private hospitals encourage c-section for convenience and profit? it's coming up in a few days and c-section has been mentioned. just wondering. don't mean to start a debate or anything. our first. so pretty clueless about this type of things to be honest. we trust the doctor for most part, but just being careful since we only moved here about a year and half ago.

    Public hospitals will not let you choose if you want a natural birth or c section, they mainly expect you to have a natural one, they will only do C sections if there is a problem or they forsee a difficulty.

    The Brit has explained why Private doctors or hospitals push for C sections quite well, its all about the $$$$$$$$$

    i see. we have been pretty clear from the start that we want natural unless c-section is necessary. only the last couple of weeks the doctor has mentioned it by stating a few reasons. obviously for us non-medical folks, it all sounds reasonable blah blah. oh well, they are trying to induce it first and if that doesn't work then c-section. but we will see. we are just freaking out at the moment.

    Lots of celebs and rich people go down the C-section route as it allows them to plan the arrival of the baby at a time that suits them. *pulls face* It seems to have almost become a status thing. In the UK it's known as "too posh to push".

    I assume they have a nanny (or two) to cover the subsequent 18 years of "inconvenient" timing.

    My baby was born in a public hospital 22 hours after my wife waters broke. She was induce 10 hours after her waters broke and for the next 12 hours Doctors mention only 1 reason they would do a C-section is if my wife lost too much water.

    forgot to mention, the doctor is also pregnant and due in a few months later. that's another reason. we may argue for a couple of days of delay if possible. is it okay to ask 2nd opinion?

    Turkey, the last country I lived in had a C-Section rate over 95%. Again down to greedy hospitals, doctors and being able to time everything. Not uncommon there for a mother to say that her baby will be born on say April 16th at 1030am weeks before it was due. Very shocking for those coming from a culture more used to natural births.

    There was, at one time, a definite C-section 'culture' in Hong Kong. Money, convenience played a part.

    If the doctor is not prepared to follow your wife's requests (and the C-section is not a medical necessity), it might be time to change doctors.

    Also bear in mind, the current doctor may be projecting her personal choice on to your wife.

    yeah, our case is borderline, I think. doctor mentioned the amniotic fluid is in the very low end of normal and baby is getting a bit big. that's why we are having second thought right now. at end of the day, we will put our trust in the doctor. although those measurements are known to be inaccurate.
