    Self Harming - terrible condition

With C Y Leung's daughter supposedly self harming recently and showing it on her facebook page (the photo above), is enough done to make the public aware of the issues around self harming?

According to a research article by Daniel T. L. Shek and Lu Yu up to 32.7% of Hong Kong students reported at least one form of Deliberate Self Harm, 13.7% of the respondents had suicide thoughts, 4.9% devised specific suicidal plans, and 4.7% had actually attempted suicide.

It is an open face book page.

Interesting to see the tabs she had open on her browser.

    1st "Attack on occupy central"
    2nd Photo of self harming
    3rd Apple Daily

but still does Hong Kong's up or out education system increase the propensity of kids here to self harm as a way relieving stress?

I don't think that's her browser but from the person that took a screenshot showing his screen when looking at her facebook profile.

Not to belittle the issue of self harming - BUT this seems to be just a cry for attention.

I guess she may have been posting photos of another young girl on her face book page.

But still the 'gorification' of self harming doesn't feel quite right.

Whatever the cause, that is what has to be dealt with and not the cutting/self-harm itself, which as you rightly point out, is a coping mechanism.

I do wonder what has driven his daughter to inflict harm on herself and hope it isn't in any manner related to his role as CE.

It may or may not... but in this particular case the local educational system seems unlikely to be the cause. She didn't attend local schools, like most of the offspring of the politico-economic elite these days (I'm not counting international, DSE or schools that follow non-local syllabuses ).

It's a sad indictment of what the establishment have done to the system, when they are no longer willing to educate their own children in the local system. Time was school aged kids would only be sent abroad if they weren't keeping up in the local system, no matter how wealthy you were.
