All in cost for birth in HK Sanitorium

Hi, can anyone provide a total all-in cost for a normal delivery at HK Sanitorium? It's so tough to figure this out beforehand! Can you also specific which type of room as this has a big impact on costs.

    thank you very much!

    Ask your doctor.
The doctor's fees are big part of it, complication and class of service are also huge contributors to it.

A normal delivery with a normal (general ward) room : you should expect around 100,000HKD.

Csection & private room, expect around 200,000

Any complications during birth : can go sky high

Hong Kong Baby and Pregnancy Community - GeoBaby.Com - Hong Kong GeoBaby will have some more recent numbers from new parents. I suggest you visit there and ask too.

if you and your wife live in Shenzhen, why do to a hospital so far from the border? why not consider union hospital in tai wai, Baptist hospital in Kowloon tong or st Teresa in Kowloon city,

they are close to east rail and easier to get to than HK Sanitorium, more important, less stressful to get to, there is a possibility of getting stuck in a traffic in a taxi in the tunnels to get to hk island from Kowloon which could be up to 30 mins queue as well as the stuck in traffic in happy valley

This one on GeoBaby.Com covers the basics of private v/s public.

Do keep in mind that doctor's costs vary, depending on the type of room you select. General -> Semi Private (2x ) -> Private (2x). Weekend costs may also vary for your doctor and for any specialists involved - anaesthesiologist etc ..

You mention in your other thread that she's going to give birth "any day now".

Have you visited the hospital(s) that you are considering? You should be able to pick up a list of fees from the hospital, and also OB clinics sometimes carry a list of fees.

The fee list is really complicated, too much so to really duplicate in text on a thread. It's based on room type, delivery type, time of day (so maybe someone could give a figure for X room, normal delivery, 3 or 5 days) but as soon as there are any complications, you can start multiply this figure by two or three.

Have you guys booked into any of the private hospitals yet? I think that the situation is not as silly as it was a couple years back when the maternity wards were flooded with Mainland mothers, but I'm not sure that you can just rock up without prior arrangements.

HK Sanitorium fees seems to be 50% higher than other hk island based hospitals and 100% higher than Kowloon hospitals

Impossible to give an exact figure.

Just be prepared to fork out between:

1/ Public: HKD 300 if you go to a Public Hospital and Public Hospital doctor follow you during pregnancy to HKD 20K if you go to Public Hospital but visit on top of it a private doctor.

2/ Private: HKD 50K if everything goes perfect at say Saint Paul or Saint Teresa and you have a decently priced doctor for example to 200K at Mathilda if you finally have emergency C section w complications.

Hospital charges (Private ones) are one thing, then, as mentionned you need to add in Doctor fees and all (ie they even charge you more for diapers if you are in a private room or in a semi private or in a ward).....
