    IV Iron Infusion

Where in Hong Kong can I get this done? And at what cost? Assuming a private hospital - a public one would probably put me into a year-long queue (if offer it at all).

I have been suffering from chronic anemia, exausting, but not life-threatening. After taking iron supplements for years, I would like to get a more radical help.

Due to borderline iron levels I got several times an infusion at Central Health. You definitely should go for it, it really improved my total condition. Sorry don't know the cost anymore, suggest you see one of their doctors and let them give you all information (highly recommend Dr. Kwan or Dr. Chan!). I did not have to wait, very straight forward!

Go to Central Health, just had a course of six transfusions done there. I believe they were HKD 1150,- each.

Central Health replied that the first IV Iron Infusion will cost $3330 which include $950 GP consultation fee.

Whilst I have no doubt in the high standards of their GPs, I am reluctant to pay extra $950 just for the priviledge to meet them. I am seeing a hematology specialist on a regular basis, and I have seen numerous other GPs about my anemia over the past 5 years. My hematology doctor is a professor at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok, he probably knows a bit more about my condition (and my history) than an excellent GP in Central Health. The only reason I am checking the prices here is that I would like to do the procedure this month and not wait until my planned visit to Bangkok later this year. But i think I may just move it forward. (The cost of the IV Infusion will be lower too, as will be the doctor fee. )

    Estimate Total cost: $2760

It is getting even more interesting after reply from the HK Sanatorium and Hospital:

"Charges of Iron injection are as follows:

    1) Venofer inj 100mg are $521 (1st class) and $426 (2nd & 3rd class)

    2) Monofer inj 500mg are $1864 (1st class) and $1553 (2nd & 3rd class)

Please note above items are only available with prescription from doctors with admission privileges of our Hospital."

I did not know there were 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes of medicaments. And they conveniently omitted all other costs (procedure, doctor's fee etc) even though I have specifically asked for all related costs.

Good to know Adventist can do it at a lower price, I'm lucky my insurance covered it though. Gotta love BKK, I too have as much done there as possible.
