maybe it could be specified what type of medication helped in that case.

Just a little update as I know many might just read and Google and not directly post as well.
There is one thing that helps me to keep sinus and ear infections down: Saline nasal rinses, daily, 5 times a day. This is due to the thinking that my cilia might be more dry or paralysed than others... and that it helped me confirmed that theory. Try it!! It can't harm.
Other than that, I have been to two respiratory specialists, prescribing anti asthma medication from montelukulast to corticosteroids and rescue inhalers, with medium success. While I do think they do something, they are not coming without side effects... my lung function is more than normal (I do regular yoga so that is not surprising).
Diagnosed was allergic bronchitis (which I have), plus the coughing is not gone as well as not the sputum. There is a chance of having asthma without lung problems (cough-variant asthma).
What seems to help is being inside, but as opposed to the cough at the beginning, which was pollution-related, now it seems to be a more regular thing.
I will get heart area out by cardio specialist as well as the dull pain in my left chest area is still not gone.
Maybe it was of interest to some people.

Same here, as I suffer from chronic dry eyes. The doc however told me to use systane. Visine is apparently a restrictor which works on limiting the blood flow and might not be as good for the long term health of your eyes, compared to Systane. Been using Systane for 10-15 years now, specially when the weather changes and the humidity drops / pollution goes up.

Might want to bring it up with your doc and also research independently.

In case anyone reads here... I have meanwhile come to the following conclusions:

the reasons for my high sensitivity to air pollution could be a form of silent reflux that has been undiagnosed... I related the effects to the air pollution, but it could have enhanced my sensitivity. After tackling what I eat I was able to control the bronchitis. Another thing that helped tremendously are nasal saline rinses... What did not help was asthma medication or anti histamines.

I hope this helps some people. I hear a lot of people coughing after eating... I also hear a lot of people coughing after drinking... so maybe worth looking at.

Mok Wai-chuen, assistant director (air policy), Environmental Protection Department boasts of 30% improvement in road side pollution

Drop in roadside air pollutants in Hong Kong thanks to government measures | South China Morning Post

Great result unless you actually have to breath the air in the busy parts of town where the results aren't quite as stellar as reported
