    Psychiatrist Who Specializes in Anxiety

    Hi,

I've been looking for a psychiatrist who specializes in anxiety. Made an appointment with Central Health Medical Practice but they only could squeeze me in two weeks from now.

If any one who has personal experiences with a doctor they could recommend please let me know I'd really appreciate it.

I need a doctor who cares. Not someone who's just going to write me pills and send me on my way. Thank you!!

Search through some of the threads.

This one has some good recommendations - and not too old.

St John's seems to be the go to place for reasonably priced counselling. However, they cannot prescribe meds.

Would recommend this - have seen someone go downhill pretty quick with a prescribed cocktail of meds from a Dr.

If you need to see a psychiatrist fast then call Dr Stephen Ng on 2868-0111. He is based in Prince's Building.Every chance you will see him tomorrow, or Monday at the latest.

His fee is $1,000, and on the first consult your time limit is 30 minutes(check with reception, may be less). After that extra fees are tacked on. So go in fully prepared with your causes and symptoms, written down if needed.

Like all central doctors his mark up on medicines is ridiculously high, but there is a way round that if you PM me after you have seen him.

(I just called him, he is away today, Monday fully booked, but some spaces on Tuesday)

This is just a suggestion from my personal experience and what I have generally seen in HK. It is difficult to get an appointment with psychiatrists and even if you manage to get one, they do not spend enough time with their clients.

So I would suggest maybe it is better to seek help from a counsellor and Shri has already mentioned the thread where you can get info about counsellors. But they usually do not prescribe meds. The Counsellor can refer you to a Psychiatrist if required. They would know quite a few.

For immediate help, while waiting for your appointments, there are several crisis hotline services in Hong Kong where you can call them up and talk. They are trained to listen to you patiently and help a bit with anxiety. However, this is for immediate help, just to help you get through your anxiety at that moment. You will have to consult a Counsellor or Psychiatrist for long term benefit.

Crisis Hotline Services - Samaritans or Samaritan Befrienders.
They are bilingual - Cantonese and English

    Good luck!

I saw Dr John So, at his office in Jordan.
Only mental health professional I've ever seen, so no real way of assessing him. He seemed good. His English was good (i.e. not a problem). He did seem a little quick to the Rx. My memory is that I was able to see him fairly soon for the initial consult.
