Simply don't eat lunch. Eat breakfast and dinner (at home) and nothing between. And with nothing I mean nothing.

Did you read the article? There's no such thing as "fat but fit".

It didn’t matter whether obese people were free from diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, a condition sometimes referred to as “metabolically healthy obesity.” As long as they were obese, they were at modestly higher risk for having a stroke, at nearly 50 percent greater risk of coronary heart disease and had nearly double the risk of developing heart failure than people who were not overweight and in similar metabolic health.

Skipping a meal is not a near death experience. After a week or so it's totally normal, no hunger feelings. Added advantage, you don't feel sleepy in the afternoon. I also jog before dinner, still enough energy left. And double added bonus: you save lots of money!

    It's called intermittent fasting.

Sounds absolutely terrible and I try to achieve the opposite. Then again, I'm trying to gain weight.

Personally I'd rather take up alcohol than fast (I don't drink). On the money subject, if you want to save lots of money, don't drink

Have they figured out which one is worse?

Fat but fit==overweight but gets very regular exercise
    or
Thin but sloth == skinny but doesnt do much exercise & exertion
