    DEPRESSED, PLEASE HELP !!!

    Hi all,

I am guy 30 Asian expat moved to HK 3 years back. I caught herpes from my ex gf in 2016. Since then, my life has been a roller coaster, I am depressed, sad, feel like there's nothing much left for me in my life. I even took some medication for depression which helped me to get back on track. Now I live healthy but still i am concerned about my future, marriage.

My doctor told me many people have it unknowingly and it doesn't affect my life span . I can live a normal life but i have to keep informed about this to my future partners . Since I got this problem, I thought i will remain single forever, because who will date a guy with herpes. My doctor told me I can find a partner who has herpes too or ready to accept you with this problem. I tried to use Positive Singles, but most of the people there are from other countries, no one in HK. I heard there are secret facebook groups for herpes as well.

If anyone knows any local HK groups or support group for herpes, please let me know . I feel like I am dying alone, Sorry for the long message and thank you.

A quick google told me that 1 in 5 people has Herpes. It’s not a big deal if you look at it like that. Often the symptoms do not show at all.

Dude, this is a non issue.

According to a recent report by the World Health Organization, 2 out of 3 people under the age of 50 have Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1), more commonly known as oral herpes. That's a staggering 3.7 billion people with a (currently) incurable virus.

On a side note, asians do have some weird ideas about herpes. My now wife thought I was gay because I had some herpes medicine in my bathroom drawer.

About 6 months after we starting dating she asked me sheepishly if I am gay, to which I said no. So, why would she ask that ? She had found my herpes medicine in my bathroom, googled it and done some research to why one would have herpes. The intrawebs said its because I had give someone a "dirty blowjob".

I got a clean one afterwards.

    There's two types of herpes:

    • HSV-1: Also known as oral herpes, this type can cause cold sores and fever blisters around the mouth and on the face.
    • HSV-2: This type is generally responsible for genital herpes outbreaks.
If the OP has HSV-1, about 90% of the population has it. You should be careful when physically interacting if you have an outbreak so you don't spread it, but depending on your reaction to it, that shouldn't be too big of a problem. I'm one of the unfortunate ones that gets these outbreaks often -- hasn't stopped me from having a wonderful partner. With HSV-2, though, I can understand that would make someone upset. Best thing to do, though, is see a doctor and for both viruses you can get treatment to help reduce the time of the outbreak. The fortunate thing about HK is that you can get treatment over the counter. In other countries, it's a huge pain, sometimes even involving a visit to a specialist even just to get a cream!

Because both are manageable and both only pose a "problem" of physical contact during an outbreak, there is no reason to worry. If a potential partner doesn't accept this, then they're not really worth being with.

PS -- I believe the outbreak the first time is the worst and they tend to be less severe after that.

What sort of herpes do you have? Is it HPV which doesnt show symptoms generally, or did you have warts and all? Im guessing the warts, if you had them have been frozen off, and you only have the virus. As many said, it is relatively common. These days you can get a vaccine for HPV strains. Anyway it shouldnt prevent you finding a partner. You seem to be equating it to HIV or something else more serious.

You are depressed about herpes? Surely there are more important things in this city and this world to be depressed about.
