Question How best to heal an open wound

I have had a minor clinical surgery done to remove a cyst from my back, but as it was infected the wound was left open so it could heal inside out.

The wound is around 4 cm deep and 3 cm wide, at present i am getting the wound re-packaged once every two days and taking whey protein + collagen peptides (i prefer vegetarian food) for quick recovery.

Would you know how long on an average such a wound take to heal? Is there any other way i can try recover fast?

For a 4cm deep, open surgical incision?

Probably by following medical advice from the doctors, and not pursuing quack remedies suggested by complete strangers on the internet?

    Collagen and whey protein supplements?

You might want to get a multivitamins like centrum to cover all bases as lots of subclinical deficiency have poor wound healing : or you could add vitamin c and zinc : I assume you have had your sugar tested and your not diabetic

I had the same problem but was behind my knee.

I had a wound similar to your size. It looked like a gunshot wound! Once I left the hospital I cleaned the wound myself and covered it. It healed slowly but it closed up, just have a dent there now. Covered it up for around 2 - 3 weeks.

Let it heal naturally. Keep it clean.

Isn't someone dressing the wound for you? Unless it's infected, don't bother with silver dressings. Polymem is only indicated if it's wet and exudative. Your nurse is probably the best person to decide for you after all, they can see the wound in front of them, and will see how it progresses from day to day. And unless you are some anorexic IG model, supplements are next to useless.

Yes the nurse is packing for me every two days. I don't take supplements like centrum etc but whey and collagen as it is given to people with severe/burnt wounds. I don't eat meat every day.

Anyways wanted to know approximate how long does it take to heal a 4cm deep wound (I know it varies but on avg)
