    I would totally endorse BKK as the best option. Except for the fact you cannot fly there right now, so if you cannot wait HK is the only option.

    The idea of flying to the US is just stupid.

    Yes, advisable to wait a few more weeks for Thailand to reopen. I had a broken tooth. The specialist in Bangkok at Asavanant Dental Hospital in Thonglor did root canal and affixed a porcelain/ceramic cap for a total of approximately 2500HKD. I did have to make 2 trips but the quality of care and prices are excellent. I also had extensive gum grafting over 1 year along with a bone grafting on one tooth after orthodontics. I totally restored my teeth for a fraction of the cost in HK. I estimate it would have cost over 150K HKD or USD20K for the work in HK or the US.

    Not to hijack this thread because I am in the same boat for root canal and stuck here in HK. But I'm concerned about covid and dental work. No mask and spitting into a bowl others spit in kinda freaks me out. I'd have to trust its well sterilised after each patient but anybody else hesitating going to dentist because of covid?

    @sussy,

    Have you found your dentist or endodontist yet?

    I’m from the USA and I may need to do a retreat root canal on a molar. I STRONGLY do NOT recommend seeing a general dentist for a root canal especially on a molar as you may have more than 2 roots. General dentists do not have the time or expertise to do an outstanding job. Usually they need to do X-Rays during the root canal treatments and they have better tools if you have some seriously long and twisted canals. I had a general dentist perform a root canal on tooth #14 and I ended up losing that tooth several years later due to missing some canals.

    Another option is to remove the tooth and get an implant. Make sure you see a periodontist or prefersbly an oral surgeon for an implant though.

    Wow this is a bit of a blanket statement! I personally know "general dentists in HK who would take the time needed to do an excellent root canal treatment. Incidentally it is not the number of roots that is the issue but the number of canals in each root.

    However I think it is sensible to get an endodontist to perform a re-treatment. If the treatment has already failed once then the stakes are higher.

    Not a blanket statement. US dentists are always booked and they cannot spend 3 hours because they find more canals and roots. Yes, its the canals but I’m in the group of people that have at least 4 to 5 long roots. My endo had to go undust a drawer to fetch the tools for long roots. I prefer to have a specialist that does this day in and day out in case he/she finds something not the norm. I’m not forcing @sussy to go to the endodontist, just giving the original poster experiences of many patients that have gone through general dentist experiences, including mine. HK general dentist might be a good option now especially as there are a lot less patients because of the Covid pandemic. If sussy finds a good general dentist, that’s great. I think I have the right to give my opinion and knowledge from others’ and my experiences. I didnt mean for this to be a blanket statement. At all.

    I agree with you about the retreatment and endodontist.

    @librarygirl2 I visited a few dentists in HK just to get their opinion. They could not find any issue with my treatment. One of them said that the root canal treatment I already had is perfect and "beautiful". He said if I the pain does not disappear, I can visit endodontist or get the tooth removed. He said that we should not consider a root canal treatment as a permanent solution. He says that they do it just to extend the life of a tooth for a few years. It is just like a kidney transplant. The person is not the same anymore.

    I had a similar experience with a dentist in HK ( Bayley & Jackson ) I also went to BKK to get it done properly. The dentist in BKK said they had made a right mess of my tooth and couldn't guarantee it.
