Did IUI and IVF during 2018/2019. Here's our experience:
1. There are lots of infertility factors which a gyno may not necessarily want to test for on day 1. We wasted nearly a year doing IUIs where we should've head straight to an IVF specialist for tests to understand root cause(s).
2. IVF is expensive in HK and cheaper in Taiwan as others pointed out. Visited a well known Taiwan IVF clinic (as a backup option) and it was packed (many are from HK) where price is approx. half however waiting time was around double. Also don't forget the costs for store the embryos.
3. If you want to choose gender or donate eggs then need to try other jurisdictions (e.g. Thailand). Also be mindful of local regulation on ownership in the event of separation.
4. You don't need to use the IVF doc as your obs. We used the same doctor who was good but again not cheap.
In short - our recommendation is to go straight to an IVF specialist and do the tests and fully understand the root cause(s), then assess if IUI is worthwhile (both time and money), or should go straight to IVF.
If money is not issue and you'd like to do in HK, PM me and will share with you my IVF doc detail. Else if you'd like to do in Taiwan I can also recommend you the clinic we visited.
