Diabetes / Hypertension Incl in CDCC Scheme

Looks set to roll out in the next few weeks / months.

Fair bit of investigative and regular treatments / monitoring being offloaded into the private sector (with some investigations / drugs being free and some copayment requirements).

Someone on here had asked about getting into the HA / Public system for some chronic issues.

Under the Health Bureau's new Chronic Disease Co-Care Pilot Scheme, which is expected to benefit 200,000 people, the administration plans to pay laboratory fee and HK$196 for the consultation fee for screening. Those who wish to join the scheme have to register as a member of a district health center before pairing with a family doctor, the bureau said.

Patients diagnosed with high blood pressure can receive six subsidized consultations, while those with high blood sugar can get four subsidized sessions, with the government paying HK$166 each time.

Although it is recommended that family doctors charge patients HK$150 per consultation, doctors will have the option to make the final decision.

"Doctors have to charge the co-payment fee transparently for patients to choose freely, but they can make the arrangement flexibly," said deputy secretary for Health Eddie Lee Lik-kong.

The General Public site has been updated.

    One thing...

Individuals who are receiving treatment for hypertension and / or diabetes mellitus from the public healthcare system (such as HA), are not eligible to participate in the CDCC Pilot Scheme.

FWIW - once you're in the public system it's pretty good for the most part.

Having said that... I am paying (a lot!!!) for a medication which is 'free' in Australia.. but apart from that it's pretty decent

HK HA's drug list is still very much under-developed country - minimal and essential.

What I've found - generics are available cheaply and if you have someone who travels regularly to places like India, they're even cheaper than HK sourced generics. Need to be aware of better quality generic manufacturers and their global standards compliance. HK seems to have a few interesting ones..

careful, customs recently arrested people for carrying large quantities, illegal import of pharmaceuticals without license because they thought it was too much for personal use

Is there some online database/ resource to quickly inquire when making a decision at the pharmacy counter, or is it only word of mouth/ experiential knowledge?

I look for international names like Teva or made here in HK or well known Indian names when in India. Avoid some random countries..

There is a CDCC station in Sham Tseng village; been there a couple of months, and the staff have said that the lease is for three years. Dead quiet this morning.
