Health Insurance in HK

    Health Insurance in HK

    Hi ..

    I have just moved last month from India , I want to know the process of Medical treatment in HK , Is there any Insurance which will cover this .
    Is Insurance Mandatory in HK , because In USA if you dont have a Insurance any medical needs will be a Hefty bill !!

    Can anyone please advice

    If you are a legal HK Resident (i.e. you have a HKID card) then treatment at public hospitals is essentially free (HK$100 per visit). There can be a bit of a wait (up to several hours) for non-emergency cases in their outpatient clinics.

    If you are healthy and don't have any ongoing needs then I would say that insurance is unnecessary, however, most employers provide some sort of basic insurance which provides a subsidy of $150-$300 for visits to private general practitioners, up to some limit.

    You might also want to check what your employer's policy is on paying you for days when you are off sick.

    Insurance is not a must..

    Health Insurance is not a must.. also Hong Kong is not like USA. If you are Hong Kong Resident... you pay only $100 for medical..
