    Cost of surgery

    Hello all,

I'm looking into the costs of healthcare here and would like a little advice.

I have a HKID so qualify as an eligible person for the public hospitals. I've seen a list of charges on the health authority website but it only details the costs for the stay, it doesn't mention anything about surgery, xrays etc.

I know every treatment is going to cost different amounts, but I want to know roughly how much it's going to cost if I, for example break my leg. I've heard stories of a leg break which required surgery costing over HK$70,000 in a public hospital.

I know some public hospitals do private work too like in the UK. What I'm interested in is roughly how much treatment costs if I stay entirely within the public system.

Any advice you can give will be most appriciated.

Hong Kong residents staying in the general wards of
public hospitals are charged $50 for the admission fee,
$100 per day occupying acute beds (or $68 per day
occupying non-acute beds) for diet, X-ray examinations,
laboratory tests, medicine within the scales provided by the
hospitals, and any form of special treatment required,
    including surgery, radiotherapy, physiotherapy, etc.

What isn't included in those fees are any non-reusable parts - stents, pacemakers, replacement joints, and so on. More or less anything that gets left inside your body (deliberately) you pay for, allegedly "at cost".

    Insurance Proctection

I have come from USA and am working in HK and China. I want to buy insurance with hospital and accident, but I meet some insurance agents in HK, but they could not speak or write English in fluent, even thought the title is what a senior manager with CFP is. My God!

    Virgo,

I know some English speaking insurance agents as they're overseas born Chinese so their native tongue is English. PM me if you want some contact details.
