C in today's medicine does not have any cure method at all so HK government hospital will not provide Hep. C test. If u do want a free Hep. C test what I recommand u is to donate your blood!!!!!!!!!!! Then u will know from the blood report!"
    What a joke!

PS a Hep. C test is not expensive at all (around $200 - $300)but what I expect from the Governemnt hospital is to put Hep. C ppl meet each other. This is sth private clinic never can do except social work group take part in it.

Your Doctor is Bad!Bad! your Dr. should test you since it's a concern for you. It's true that there is no CURE for Hep C, but it increases the risk of having a hepatocellular carcinoma (cancer), You have all the rights and reason to be concern.
Hep C is diagnose by finding Hep C antibody in the serum using third-generation Elisa-3 tests and tested by PCR technique, No wonder your Doctor is hesitant because the test is expensive and might not be subsidise by the goverment. There are available treatment to weaken the Hep C virus (hopefully lessen your chance to get cancer)

    Alpha interferon 2b + Ribavirin

I assume your Doctor is not a specialist that's why he's a jerk. See an Infectious disease Dr. they have more understanding and knowledge of your case.

Alternatively see a Gastroenterologist or check CDC

    I'm so sorry

I should have check the date, I do apologize, but on the other hand my post might be useful in the future to those who's looking for information. Since Hepatitis is quite rampant in ASIA, I guess It's just my frustration with the Hongkong Medical council, wherein they make it so hard for foreign Doctors to practice in Hong kong, and no guidance at all regarding the examinations. while the local Doctors take advantage of the naiveness of the patient, and no rapport at all. My aunt was told by a hongkong Doctor that she have cancer, and later told that they made a mistake. Also my aunt was told by the Doctor her sugar and blood pressure is high, yet not made any follow up or referral for her.
My best friend was told she have Hernia by a Hong kong doctor, and told she needed CT scan, later on she was told she don't have hernia instead some gynecological problem.

Thanks for reminding me to stay cool, I do hope that someone might benefit from the info. I sent. Cheers and let's be merry.

Public Hospitals in HK now do have tests which test for Hep C and they even offer treatment to appropriate candidates. Depending on what genotype you are, there is a 50-80% chance of eradicating the virus. Treatment involves 6-12 months of weekly injections and daily tablets, all of which are associated with various side effects. Hep C is mainly transmitted via contaminated needles and blood products, so it is not necessary to quarantine someone and have separate utensils for example. Hep C is not as common in HK/Asia as Hep B, which is a different disease altogether. Hope this helps. Not all doctos here are dodgy You do get some, but then it's just like anywhere else. A bit pot-luck really.
