    I have medical insurance and their isn't a surgeon in HK who could do the operation I needed ... but my insurance paid for me to have it done overseas by a top surgeon... I would say that not having to come up with half a million for that operation was worth the minimal insurance fees (12K HK a year!)

    And the chances of that happening? Let's say one in a million. Still not worth it or necessary IMO though of course in your individual case it clearly was very much worth it. What was the operation that could not be done in Hong Kong?
