Chinese Input using English Windows XP ?

You can certainly do that with English Windows XP free.

1. Control Panel > Regional and Language Options
2. Click Languages tab
3. Install Files for Asian Languages
4. After you have installed the languages, click Details on the Text Services and Input Languages
5. From there, you can set up different keyboards for input methods as you like. I use Chinese Traditional - Quick
6. Click the Key Settings for a hot key to switch your input methods
7. One important step - click Advanced tab
8. Select Chinese (Taiwan, HKSAR as you like) in the Language for Non-Unicode Program. So that you can read Chinese in Outlook and IE.

i cannot follow at step 5, no such option in the list


i would like to know what Chinese input method(s) is avaliable for you to select/use ?

I think the Details button will be shown after you have installed the Asian Languages. I couldn't remember exactly.

There are many different input methods for Chinese you can choose, maybe you'd better do a search at Microsoft website.

i see the details button, but i cannot see the option you mentioned in step five

if you have installed it in your pc and you are using this function without problem why not just let me know what input method options are available to you

I just NJ Star all the time for my chinese class.
The NJ Star Word processor is great if you know pinyin for input.
If you don't, NJ Star Chinese pen allows you to write chinese characters with your mouse and it gives you options for the closest ones (in case the writing is sloppy). You can write into any application.
There's a trial version for both with an option of purchasing after.

If you are using English version of Windows XP ?

I would like to explore more available options and add on that allow you to input Chinese characters.
