    Outlook express

I have a computer problem at work. We (UK system) use outlook express but since Monday I am unable to reply or forward emails. I can use the system at home so it seems to be a work (HK) problem. I have borrowed a local techy but he seems at a loss and my own techies are a few thousand miles away. Anyone got any suggestions as to what could be causing the problem? P.S. I am a thick shit when it comes to computers.

Are you using netvigator / now broadband by any chance?

Can you still receive emails? If so then it looks like your settings for "sending" emails are not correct. Receiving emails is done by your "pop" server and sending by your "smtp" server. The smtp server name in Outlook Express may have changed at your ISPs end and they forgot to notify you. Ring them up.

At home I am on NOW but obviously not at work.

If it was due to a change in my SMTP server back in the UK wouldn't it have the same effect on my system at home though? I did ask if anything had changed and they said no.

Your connection to the internet is via broadband through a local ISP right? At home you are using PCCW (NOW) and at work you are using someone else. Both will use their own pop and smtp servers whose names you need to enter into Outlook Express. Your UK office's setup should be unrelated to the local ISP settings.

So even though I am logged on to the system in the UK it would still go through the SMPT server here?

Depends by what you mean. If your company operates a leased line to the UK (which is very expensive) than you could be using the pop and smtp servers there. If not then you will be using the servers belonging to your broadband provider here in HK.
What exactly do you mean when you say logged in to the UK system? (just trying to understand the problem).

Sorry discobay but as I said as far as computers go I am as thick as shit. I log on to the system here provided by our partners in HK, then internet explorer then the UK owa.xxxxx address. Does that make sense?

OK so it sounds like you log in here in HK to authenticate yourself from complete strangers who may try to use the system.
Internet Explorer (IE) is used to establish a browser link to your UK system.
And then do you access your email using Outlook Express or some other program or IE itself?
