    La Cie "lego like" hard-disk

How would you rate the LA CIE hard disk that looks like a giant lego block?
Where can I buy one in white?
Can I use it to store all my itunes music library? How does that work?
What size hard disk do I need?

    Thanks!!!

la cie are a good make.

I would go to the wanchai computer centre and take a look there.

It works just like your normal hard drive, so yes you can store pretty much anything on it.

Install itunes on it then put your music on it, very simple to do.

Just buy the largest you can afford, How many cd's do you have etc?

160gb which is the smallest should be more than enough for most people, e.g 5gb is enough to store about 1000 songs.

When I've installed Itunes on it, do I sync my Ipod directly onto the hard drive? Or is it just used to back up the songs?

not directly onto the hard drive per se, but when you dock the ipod onto your pc/mac then the itunes software etc will start.

On yes only install itunes on the one hard drive otherwise it will confuse things.

Thanks! Is the lego block the best value La Cie hard drive? Or is there a better/cheaper model? I'm new to this. Although it's time I started thinking about backing up my songs+photos+important documents. Is there anything else I can back up using this hard drive?

Its not the best value as such, as you're paying for the styling etc.
They do your standard external hard drives etc which is roughly the size of a bible, much cheaper but of course it ulimately depends on if you want portability.

Yes you can pretty much put anything you want on these drives.

Mp3's, Photo's, Spreadsheets, Word documents etc etc

And then there are a number of members who're reported frying their Lacie bricks ...

I'm happy to buy another model if you have a better one to recommend!

Iomega and Maxtor are good alternatives.

You could buy an external case and a standard hard drive to go inside it. Fitting the drive is pretty easy.
