Bungle : I suspect it is the Wanchai Computer Center next to Southhorn. There is a game console specialist in the exact location mattstewart mentioned.

are we definitely sure that nintendo wouldnt be able to disable the effect of a modchip when it releases firmware??
because i know recently they did this (misakenly or not) with freeloaders for GC games

    Guys

Is the previous advice still relevant?

I'm looking at buying one for a gf back in u.k, so a u.s version thats been modded to all regions should be fine I assume? How much am I looking at for the mod to be done now?

    Thanks in advance

    Maybe a bit late, but...

I picked up a USA Wii (previously I had a Japanese one) and enquired about chipping it yesterday in the same store mentioned above.

Unfortunately Nintendo have been changing the chipset used in the Wii, so if you have a Wii with a newer chipset then the old Mod Chips won't work. There are newer Mod Chips availiable, but these are more expensive and more difficult to fit. It's also rumoured that some Wiis produced this month use a newer chipset again, which may prevent the Wii being modded for the time being.

Bottom line is, depending on chipset and therefore which Mod Chip you need, the price is HK$250 - HK$950 (ouch!).

    Some useful links:

This site will help you to find out what chipset your Wii has:

If you have a D2C chipset, you need the newer more expensive Mod Chip.

Do you remember the name of the shop, or any other info?

    Thanks!

How about modding the Wii so that it will play DVD movies? Anybody know if the shop will do it? Will consider bringing my Wii back to HK over the holidays if that's possible...
