I am a whiz of a typist but still cannot do numbers on my laptop without looking at the keyboard.
Is that the norm?

depends...are you using the horizontal numbers on top of the keyboard or the numlock part on the right?
most anyone who spends a lot of time in excel should be able to type numbers with the numlock in their sleep.

Don't all laptops only have the line of numbers running at the top of the keyboard?
On a desktop I can do numbers without looking because it's set up like an adding machine.

you can get a USB number pad to attach to your laptop, which is what i was referring to. much quicker that way.
