    Want to play with Linux

I need to play with Linux. Which distribution is easiest for dummies (and free to download)?

you could try Ubuntu (Has a Desktop and Server version - i think they have a LiveCD version too) @ db... another good one is Fedora Core (6 is the latest version. They have a Live CD - no need to install)

Thanks TD, I'll look out for Ubuntu's liveCD as it sounds funkier and foreign.

I'll second the recommendation for Fedora.

    I recommend Ubuntu...

It's pretty user-friendly, has a nice out-of-the-box experience, and, importantly, has good support for modern hardware. There's no particular reason you shouldn't have a good time with it, and they'll even ship you a CD for free if you ask nicely

For what it's worth, I use Slackware by choice, and I'm planning to try Gentoo soon - but I wouldn't recommend either of those for someone new to Linux who just wants to have a play.

Ubuntu is said to be the easiest one to use now
