A new Dell should have built-in firewire and ethernet adaptors but yours are plugged into your pci slots? The display card should be agp not pci and your sound card should also be built-in. Could you post your Dell model number?
I'm pretty sure AGP isn't used on modern mainboards. As for sound, even the cheapest card is better than what's available on board. These PCI expanders seem rather expensive (I saw 200 euro dollars when I googled). It would probably be cheaper freeing up a PCI slot and getting a PCI-e firewire card. If you have found one online, surely you could print out the picture of it and show the folks in the computer centre. You will probably need to hit shops that handle server type computers.
