    Web Developers

    Hi everyone.

What's the current situation for web design firms in Hong Kong?

Are they any good, any ideas on pricing, any recommendations or horror stories? Are they up on the latest technologies in terms of CMS (content management systems)?

    Many thanks in advance.

Depends on what you consider the latest technology in content management.

Dynamic CMS, Web 2.0, multi-tiering, language translation etc.

    Those are just buzzwords ...

All the agencies here will throw them at you and quote you exorbitant prices.

Lots of them do the work.

All depends on how much a client can control the vendor.

Why do people walk in thinking that HK might be backward? Just like anywhere in the world .. there are guys doing great stuff with just static dreamweaver stuff .. and there are guys doing some awesome corporate / enterprise stuff filled with every buzz word you could think of.

Hi, I would be most enjoyable to entertain your business. I am tops in web designer services for your company. We are pursuing new technology in Hong Kong called Hyper Text Markup Language. This language allow us to make best best website. We even do images! Please to meet your acquaintance.

Hey nobody said HKG was backward - sorry if you took it that way. I have a Client who is looking to establish a business there and they have asked me to investigate this for them.

As you can see from my original posting it was a pretty simple question which I then explained further as you requested.

If maturity is something you might be looking for, then I highly recommend it.

And the variance in price is quite telling. There are oodles of agencies that do cheap work that's a quick couple of pages with nothing fancy. But many people may become disillusioned with so many fancy sites (Flickr, Google, Apple), that they don't realise how many people and skills are required to build them. Or they might read that one person created MySpace with and think any web designer can quickly create a large site.

Plus all of that at an intern labour rate.

Conversely just throwing money at an agency doesn't mean they will be any good. Many groups that are good at web design are likely to be booked out on many large corporate intranet sites as its a more reliable income source. That leaves artistic houses that might charge a very high premium or new companies with eager entrepreneurs.

My recent HK favourite design house is mediaman Shanghai, a German design agency's branch in Shanghai with an office in Wan Chai:
