    Leaving aside the obvious fact that even an upconverting DVD player (or video processor) would still only have the 480-DVD source material (and, hence, will only have limited impact on picture quality), what makes you say that Hong Kong "does not do" them?

    Well, I can use a transformer for voltage conversion. But donno how to convert NTSC into PAL. Has anyone done this and been sucecssful?

    There is usually a basic switch on the back, one side will say NTSC and the other will say PAL - you just flip the switch.

    That switch is present only in international models
    I am not keen in viewing Local channels. If I can view Cable TV and watch movies using my DVD i would be happy.
