I have an old Sony Mini DV tape video recorder (DCR-HC46) and ten mini DV tapes that I would like to put on to DVD’s to be able to send home videos back to the grand parents. I had a Sony DVDirect DVD recorder (Amazon.com: Sony VRD-MC1 DVDirect External USB 2.0 Multi-Function 16x DVD Recorder: Electronics) before moving to Hong Kong. It was idiot proof where I just clicked on play and record and then put the DVD’s in the mail.

I am now contemplating installing a IEEE1394/Firewire card onto my desk top Optiplex 780 (4 GB Ram, 2.66 GHZ, Windows 7 Pro ). I am waiting on a quote from DELL (see pictures) but if that does not come through does anyone have a recommendation on a reputable location to purchase that card and cable and an approximate price?

I am planning on using the Windows DVD maker to make the DVD’s.

Do I need any other programs?

I am not looking to do any editing, etc. I just want to make the process from Mini DV to DVD as quick and painless as possible

Thanks!
