Fridge/Freezer question

Problem-Freezer section is now working intermittently, some days on, some off, so is totally unusable

Fridge seems to be working fine.

First time Samsung come is a good day for freezer, and they say nothing is wrong.

Second time is a bad day and ice melted etc. Samsung say I need a new compressor for around $3,500 on a fridge that cost around $4,500 only 5 yrs ago.

Mate says that the fridge and freezer work off the same compressor, so if fridge is working it's more likely a valve or switch that needs replacing.

Anyone have any ideas, or is this a typical case of suck it up and just buy a new fridge freezer, but not from Samsung.

i had the same sort of problem with samsung also, in the end it was internal thermometer inside for the freezer that was broken and they said that my fridge was old and no more parts are being made, this was a fridge that I only brought and used for 4 years, luckily they still managed to find the parts for it.

I am also getting the "it's old model, can't get parts" line.

Funny how they can find a $3500 compressor for it, but not a cheap bit of rubber sealing trim for the door (even though it is exactly the same size as current models).
