    Help with gmail contacts

A couple of months ago I went through a big purge of my contacts and got it down to the perfect list - everyone I needed was IN and everyone I didn't need was deleted ...

And then I synched it with 3 macs, a blackberry and Outlook on a PC.....

And all was right with the world..... for a while.

Now contacts are randomly vanishing. Someone's phone number that was in my blackberry last week is not there now. All the vcards I imported have vanished.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on or ideas as to what I might check out? To start with I thought I'd just accidentally deleted a few folks in the major purge, but then I put them back and they've gone AGAIN!

    Its the macs.

    Apple hates Google.

I suggest you purge the macs and replace them with Android machines or go back to using a Rolodex.

Could you be more explicit? Something particular going on with apple address book for example?

I found some gmail contacts 'hidden' away that were only visible on the desktop and not on my android phone. Try logging onto gmail on your computer, go into the contacts, then you will notice "My Contacts", "Starred in Android", "Other Contacts", and options to create new groups of contacts.

For me, I found a whole bunch on contacts in "Other Contacts". I dont know how they got there. Once I moved them into "My Contacts", they were back on the phone. As far as I can tell, it is only the My Contacts and Starred in Android contacts that are visible on phones.

Speaking of Blackberry and Outlook, I once discovered that Outlook doesn't actually sync ALL of the BB's contact fields (nor does it sync ALL of a calendar entry)... I used to use the "custom fields" in my Contacts to store trivial things like account numbers and passwords--which made for some entertaining conversations with my firm's IT department after they'd accidentally wiped my BB and the backup. Now I put that kind of data into the "Notes" field, which Outlook does sync. (Only the first 256 characters of a calendar subject field or location field is actually synced with Outlook.)

If you're using uncommon data fields, you should check that they actually sync.
