    Voltage converter, 100V to 220V and 1000W

Anybody know where I can buy a voltage converter (from 100V to 220V)? Needs to be heavy duty as the kitchen appliance I want to use is 1,000 watts. Also, what is the likely cost? Thanks!

Are you sure that's what you want? If it's for use in Hong Kong you almost certainly want one that converts from 220V to 100V.

And a heavy duty converter like that is going to be the same order of magnitude in price as a kitchen appliance I would guess.

sorry, you are right. That's what I meant. I bought a kitchen appliance in Japan that's 100V, and want to use in HK. So if 1,000 watts would be very expensive? Do you know where I could check / buy?

Start on Ap Liu Street in Mongkok.. they have some specialist audio shops there that might have the gear. Also take a look at the A/V arcade in Mongkok.

A 1KW step down transformer will probably run you about $1000HK or less. (they go for about USD100 on the US mail order sites like this .. http://www.starkelectronic.com/st500.htm)

I have a voltage converter, but max 100W. What would happen if I use this on my appliance which is 1,000W?

It will burn out very quickly indeed, possibly taking fuses and circuit breakers with it.
