In the last two months I've had two octopus cards just suddenly stop working. I haven't abused them in anyway, they have just sat safely in a section of my wallet.
Anybody got any experience of his happening?

Er, do you perhaps mean Octopus cards?
If so, just take them to an MTR Customer Service Centre. They can normally get them out of the anomalous state, or otherwise replace them.
But that's happened once to my Octopus card in 14 years, so if it's happening often to you then I suspect it's something you're doing.

Edited in light of amended information from the OP re Oyster/Octopus.
I'm the same at Gruntfuttock, only one card has gone funny on me since they were introduced. They are very 'stable'. So... it's not them - it's you!

Yeah I meant Octopus!!
I took it to the MTR and they are going to replace it.
That's it, I wouldn't expect them to break that regularly so I'm trying to work out what it could be. It just sits in my wallet I don't take it out.
I thought maybe something else in my wallet could affect the magnet or chip or whatever is inside an octopus. But the only other stuff I got in there is bank cards and a HKID. I can't explain it.
Where does your wallet sit at home when it's not in your pocket? Not on top of a TV or loudspeaker?
The phone on top of the wallet could well be the issue.
