Crowd steps up to fund 'NSA-proof' app

In just 36 hours, users contributed $100,000 to fund an app designed to get around state spy agencies like the US National Security Agency (NSA). Swedish tech entrepreneurs, including Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde, successfully crowdfunded the planned iOS and Android app named Heml.is, Swedish for "secret".

Snowden must be escaping them now.

You can be become a follower of Richard Stallman who the other evening was "planning" err plotting with Assange as to how to get Snowden out of Moscow. Irony of ironies - Assange locked in an Embassy from which he can't escape without heading to another lock up planning Snowden's escape from his current lock up.

His views have always been extreme. His only computer is a Lemote Yeelong netbook, because it's the only computer which uses only Free software - no firmware blobs, no proprietary BIOS; it's all Free. He also refuses to own a mobile phone, because they're too easy to track; until there's a mobile phone equivalent of the Yeelong, Stallman doesn't want one. Generally, all software should be Free. Or, as the Free Software Foundation puts it:

As our society grows more dependent on computers, the software we run is of critical importance to securing the future of a free society. Free software is about having control over the technology we use in our homes, schools and businesses, where computers work for our individual and communal benefit, not for proprietary software companies or governments who might seek to restrict and monitor us.
The story has Stallman's solution to Microsoft, etc. in it:

Tor's security is defined by the exit nodes, all the nodes in the US are quite well covered by the FBI already. No great surprise there.
