    computer with virus needs repair

Does anyone know the place to go or someone that comes to you to repair a computer with a virus?

Just need to get the computer cleaned - don't need to recover any data as its the kids computer. Also any ideas of costs for this type of service?

    Try
    [email protected].

He'll come to your house and fix it. He's done work on our computer twice (including the data recovery you said you wouldn't need).
He also has an office, so dropping it off would also be an option.
Sorry, no idea on what he would charge.

    Guys, a tad drastic there.

All you need to do is go to downloads.com and do a search for free anti virus, install it and let it run and do its thing.

I love the 'just' at the start of this sentence.

    More like

    1. find windows disk
    2. Find windows key
    3. Format primary drive and install windows (1hr)
    4. Find disk with NIC drivers to get network card working to be able to go online to get the rest of your drivers that PnP hasn't picked up.
    5. Go round mates house to d/load NIC drivers as you can't find disk.
    6. Apply service packs
    7. Validate windows. Call M/soft and type in 422 digit code to validate your version (another hour).
    8. Start installing programs.
    9. Use PC. Stop, realise all the other s/ware you have forgotten.
    10. Configure s/ware....

I am sure I have missed out a few steps here!!!

Just use an online service like House Call, however it's a virus you can never guarantee it can be cleaned up. It's always worth a try. It is safer to take the disk out and check on another computer, it all depends how lucky you are.

Afterwards remember to install AVG Free anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.

    Here's one you missed---
    11. Discover you have screwed things up so badly that you either have to call someone in to fix your fixes (at a much higher cost than if you had just called them in the first place) or buy a new computer.
