    my experience (as Jimbo says) is that they are looking to buy old electronics, not repair them…

    For appliance repair, look locally. Every neighborhood (maybe not DB/PI) have shops like these:

    Hole in the wall places that will deal with electrical goods. The are usually very reasonable.
