    Question CCD vs CMOS

    Hi

I am new to photography and read that CCD gives better images rather than a CMOS is that true in practicality if it is true why manufcatureers are using CMOS rather than CCD for the higher end DSLR cameras..

    Hope some geeks can help

I think that the "CCD vs CMOS" debate was more relevant in the early ages of digital photography, i.e. about ten years ago.

AFAIK, it's just not relevant now- the technologies just evened out. Kind of like "Intel vs AMD", where one was the clear leader in the early 90s and they just leapfrog each other today.

Traditionally CCD gives superior results and is more mature technology. CMOS came about because its much cheaper to manufacture and more importantly uses far less battery (upto 100 times less power). Most very high end cameras still stick to CCD but yes I agree that CMOS has come a long way and is not almost at par with CCD.
