Have you upgraded the service pack on your Windows XP? because I've encountered some problems with Wifi before upgrading to sp1 a couple years ago..
Also some problem with my laptop connecting to a similarly named router/access point within range (both my router and my neighbor's are named linksys.. i'm just too lazy)

Same here with the Dell laptop running on Windows XP. We've bought an Apple Imac, plugged all wires in the sockets and........it worked properly. We still don't know what was wrong before
maybe something with windows?
