Finally got hkbn installed, seems to be ok. 100Mb with 20Mb overseas, 24months plan (5 of them are free), $169 + $10 for a phone line.

Hi, a request! Please use this website Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
and help me to check overseas servers speed of hkbn. servers like USA, Europe, Xiamen, Taipei, Changchun or Tokyo. The reason i requested you is that i am about to apply HKBN but am worried about their overseas speed. i mainly surf overseas sites. Thanks in advance for your help!

For console (Online) Gaming DO NOT use HKBN. Go with PCCW or HGC. There are regular bandwith issues with US sites and this gets worse in summer when they start running their $99 deals. Bandwith can drop as low as 1m at peak hours.

MSFT HK and Sony support constantly warn gamers about HKBN as their bandwith issues causes them to get lots of support calls.

Sorry, can't do it now, because my contract only starts in May. I had the installation done first because pccw needs 1 month notice to free me from their chains, and I wanted to make sure hkbn worked. I'm still using pccw this month.
But if I'd known about that speed test site before, I would have tested it on the installation day.

What, they have $99 deals every summer??
Anyway, I'm not a gamer, but bandwidth dropping like that is not fun! I hope they're working to improve it.

Hi again, I have access to both PCCW and HKBN for a few days now; some results from speedtest.net:

    ISP DOWNLOAD UPLOAD LATENCY SERVER
    PCCW 28.23 10.17 7 Hong Kong
    PCCW 18.81 7.81 166 Los Angeles, CA
    PCCW 28.37 3.03 347 San Diego, CA
    PCCW 23.95 3.22 245 Chicago, IL
    HKBN 3.56 5.75 271 Chicago, IL
    HKBN 2.07 2.67 271 Chicago, IL
    HKBN 93.79 83.35 2 Hong Kong
    HKBN 15.12 3.85 343 San Diego, CA
    HKBN 27.41 8.68 60 Tokyo
    HKBN 17.32 2.73 234 New York, NY
    HKBN 25.52 4.87 155 Los Angeles, CA

Seems pretty good to me in both cases - right on spec for the local connection and pretty good for international bandwidth.

I used both PCCW and HGC in past 12 months. In terms of gaming, latency for both are very similar. In terms of download speed, HGC gave me the best speed somehow.

The problem with HKBN is that the overseas bandwith is not very stable. There also seems to be a lot of packet loss causing random disconnects while gaming. PCCW seems pretty good and i've heard good things about HGC as well.

HUTCHISON GLOBAL COMMUNICATION SUCKS!!! this company is very bad in excuses. they scheduled my reconnection this saturday and cancel it this moment. don't make promises to your client if you are not 100% committed to your clients. and you give your employees the right to tell customers lame excuses. not all your customers are ignorant to computers.

HGC broadband service sucks. This company allows their staff to give lame excuses to customers. If you are not going to commit 100percent of your service to us then do not make any promises to your customers. Hutchison Global Communication Broadband very very very RUDE.
