no new mac mini at sept special event :(

..so all I want is a nice punchy processor, a 250G hard drive and HDMI mac mini to make my home entertainment system complete but Apple fail to deliver again. Instead spending time overhauling an out of date ipod

    *sigh*

Oh come on .. be a proper Apple fanboy and post twenty page topics about how the new color and the 2mm size difference in the new iPod will change the way you live your life.

    Sorry, could not help it.

i don't see why the current mini (which i'm using now) can't do what you want except for the HDMI part. i've got a 200GB, 7200RPM drive that I swapped easily plus added RAM...

    love my Mac

Isn't the iPod Apple's main money earner?

Anyway, I would just like a new Mac, any new Mac, but such purchases are a 'couple decision' and my old man is a Windoze user, the philistine...

hehe actually I am not an "apple fanboy" but for a media center these little pockets of Job's blessings make sense.

casual surfer: for the money I would rather not have to lift the lid on it straight away and upgrade the sucker. I understand you only get 5 "changes' on the region code for the DVD player before it "sticks"...

Are you playing HD movie files from your current mini?

not a big movie nut so mainly AVI/MP4 files. i use a 22" screen and love the real estate

for DVD playback, my recommendation is go get an external 1TB SATA drive (they're getting cheaper and cheaper) and plug it into one of those SATA drive adaptors with USB or FireWire and rip away using mac the ripper and watch away via FrontRow - no more regional crap and you get to back up the DVD you bought legally
