    Home monitor - IP camera

I've got one response already (and thanks, you know who), but any other thoughts?

Looking for something to cover the flat.

    What do you guys use?

Overkill for a typical HK flat, but we are installing the new Foscam dome camera at our house in France. Incredible night picture, and after researching all the cloud services Foscam seemed the best priced and features.

Because we went with Foscam on the outside, we are going to stick with them for internal cameras. But I really liked the Nest indoor camera and if the outdoor camera hadn't been the priority I would have gone with this one:

Cheaper than Nest and 2 years off batteries with up to 10x cameras per base station.

I would strongly recommend against buying anything from Foscam. I'm not paying much attention to IP cameras these days, but Foscam seems to be the single least secure major manufacturer of IP cameras on the market, their products have hit infosec news sites in big ways for for years.

Ten years ago, they were bad. And today quick Google shows:

January- stupendously bad vulnerabilities (hardcoded passwords) letting the devices get hijacked. Anyone who makes devices with hardcoded, and even hardcoded blank, passwords in 2017 (let alone 2000) does not give a flying shit about security: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/foscam-...ews-25254.html

February- Foscam cameras are shown to communicate back to undisclosed remote sites, and when the admin option to disable this comms is unticked, the cameras keep communicating anyway.

another vote for xiaomi. i think i was like 150 hkd. i connect it with my xiaomi tv box to get the power. no need to turn on xiao tv box on to get power. i can see and hear from my cell phone. i can talk as well, but haven't tried. i just switch off power after i get home.

How do these things stream? i.e. to servers in China or elsewhere?

If Foscam is out - whats a good alternative for outdoor camera? Something that will withstand high winds, a ton of rain (no snow, no ice) and be located on the other side of the world.
